Prayer
Lord Jesus, guide me every day,

Materials needed: You will need examples of different Bibles, Children’s Bibles with pictures and many others. Also bring in books that make up a group or a boxed set of something that they would know. For example a boxed set of Golden Books or Winnie the Pooh Books, or even a boxed set of children’s books from the library. What is important is that the boxed set look like one book when they are together and yet all be different stories, hopefully ones the children recognize. Have all of the Bibles and books standing on a table in the front so the children can see them when they come in to the chapel.

Lesson:

Read scripture. Tell the children that this comes from a very old song where the person who was singing was very happy to learn about what we call our Bible.

Children, what do you like to learn about? (Affirm their answers or encourage them by asking if they like to learn about snails, or how to make cookies, or where they can make new friends.) The person who sang those words a long, long time ago was happy to learn about God from words in our Bible. So today, we will learn about the Bible, too.( Show them all the different Bibles that you have brought and what they look like. Now, ask) Have any of you children been to the Library? ( Again wait for their answers and affirm them) When you go to the Library, where do they go first? Do you stop and read the first book you see or do you go back to the children’s section? (wait for their answers) The Bible is like a little library, it is made of many books. (Show them the boxed set of books and how they all look like one book. Take out the different books and show them how the stories are all different. With Golden Books you have the advantage of them being totally different stories. ) This is like our Bible. The Bible is actually many different books put together with one binding. It’s like a library of stories and all of them about God.
Let’s sing our song about our Bible.
